Intro
Luxury brands rely on precision, consistency, and craft. High-volume recruiting introduces a very different set of constraints — scale, speed, and constant change.
The hiring experience needed to balance Nordstrom’s premium standards with real-world recruiting needs, translating editorial design principles into a system that worked broadly without becoming exclusive.
Design Challenge
Translating luxury design cues into a hiring experience that scales, without losing balance or accessibility.
Interpreting Elevated at Scale
Luxury means different things to different audiences. The design focused on translating Nordstrom’s brand values into a hiring experience that felt refined and intentional, without alienating candidates outside the fashion industry.
Rather than leaning heavily on branding elements, the interface used subtle cues like typography, rhythm, and layout to communicate quality. The result was an experience that felt elevated without being exclusive, allowing the brand to speak without overpowering the content.
Clarity as a Conversion Tool
Job discovery and role content were designed to feel calm, focused, and easy to scan, reducing cognitive load at the moment candidates are deciding where to engage.
This approach supported faster understanding of opportunities while maintaining an elevated brand experience, positioning clarity, not content volume, as the primary driver of engagement.
Designing with Stakeholder Complexity
The project required close collaboration across client stakeholders, content, and engineering to align on what mattered most for candidates.
Design decisions were guided through ongoing design critique and partnership using experience and user-centric practices to create outcomes that balanced brand expectations accessiblity.
Outcome
The final experience translated Nordstrom’s premium brand into a hiring context that felt refined, approachable, and clear, even at scale.
By prioritizing clarity, restraint, and guided interaction, the design supported real-world recruiting needs without compromising brand quality or candidate experience.
Impact:

- A refined hiring experience without narrowing the audience

- Faster candidate role comprehension and application through clearer interaction

- A more inclusive experience across devices and contexts
